SA POWR represents students in the San Antonio area who want different musical experiences than their regular classroom allows them. Our goal is to provide students musical experiences with professional musicians and local universities and to provide scholarships for music technology, private lessons, stringed instruments, and summer music camps, such as the Mark Wood Rock Orchestra Camp (MWROC).
Music Clinics
SA POWR sponsors schools to have professional musicians come down to the classroom in order to give master classes on their subject of expertise. From mariachi to metal, from bluegrass to baroque, we tailor fit these clinics with the artists to accompany the chosen pieces that your orchestra may be working on. Many students have voiced how influential these clinics have been, and how it deepened their appreciation for the genre they are currently studying. Artists also take the time to answer questions in an open discussion and give a personal performance of material they may be cooking up for their next album or tour. These rare, individual clinics truly open doors and broaden minds for young musicians looking to start in something they may be interested in but don't know where to begin.
RockON
The premise is simple - SAPOWR will work with school orchestra directors and our network of artists to design a tailor-made rock/pop orchestra makeover culminating in a live performance at the end of the experience. Profits from tickets sold to the event directly benefit the school’s music programs. The musical selections are surprising - and include original compositions, custom arrangements of your favorite songs, and bold fusions of everything in between. This is also a significant opportunity to bolster family and community involvement, which in turn funds for bigger and better opportunities down the line for both your student and your school(s).
Scholarships
Giving our youth the chance to experience something very outside of their typical resources is a chance to expand their horizons. Students through music have a chance to express themselves, grow confidence and learn discipline through their music studies. However, we do recognize not everyone has the resources to chase after these opportunities. So, the SA POWR team has made it part of their mission to also offer and award scholarships to students that to sponsor music equipment and enrichment opportunities, such as the MWROC (Mark Wood Rock Orchestra Camp), and private lessons. We raise the funds through both specialized school fundraisers and direct donations, so any degree of aid will help fund as many students as possible.
Materials for Orchestra Classrooms
The advantages of music education are well documented but support for these programs continues to face hurdles. The
SA POWR team provides a unique solution to these problems by working directly with schools to provide specialized support in and out of the classroom. We contract directly with music businesses ranging from instrument shops to classroom supplementals to make things easier for Orchestra Directors and more fun for students. Beyond that, if any specific music is needed to be arranged to fit an orchestra, we have a network of professionals that can assist with that as well. From 5th grade strings for the little ones, to the meatier pieces that can help high school senior brush up skills before college, we aim to reach the musical cores of all those we service.
